Rooster Cogburn's Ostrich Ranch

Ostriches at Rooster Cogburn's Ranch

We had a ball at the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, just south of Picacho Peak off I-10, 20 minutes north of Marana, AZ.

We brought the whole family for a day of holiday fun, from 18 months to 50, and spent a very enjoyable 2 hours.

The Ranch is a family owned business of over 600 acres, containing over 1000 black hen roosters - the largest anywhere in the WORLD outside of South Africa.

You may visit the ranch May through September from 9 - 5:30, Friday through Monday. and October through April Thursdays through Tuesdays.

Top of the list to do is...feed the Ostrich. You may feed them through provided chutes that lead to their feeders, place it in the pans, or if you're a thrill seeker - feed them from your hands.  Watch out!  They peck, and it can hurt!  My sons enjoyed competing to see who was "tougher", and they are all in their twenties!

Slightly tamer - well, MUCH tamer - are the deer.  No biting here!

Or the donkeys - also very safe.

Or the goats - which can get a bit excited over the whole feeding thing...

Before you leave, enter the Lorikeet forest.  It's newer - 5000 sq. feet especially created Lorikeet habitat.  They are very friendly - or else very eager to get at the nectar cups provided with your admission.

Warning - bring cameras!  You won't want to miss the fun!

Some fun facts:
Did you know an ostrich egg has the same volume as two dozen chicken eggs?
Did you know it takes 90 minutes to hard boil an ostrich egg?
Did you know an Ostrich can reach speeds of 40 mph - you CAN'T outrun them!

Finish up your visit with a trip through the gift shop and take home a feather duster to remember your trip.

Remembering our family trip always brings a smile to my face.

Create your own memories with a camera - and a short 30 minute trip north from Tucson to Rooster Cogburn's Ostrich Ranch.
